I’ve always loved Wong’s romantic representation of New York’s desolation. The two fire fighters/lovers in the foreground of a burning city. What else is there to do, but love? Plus, that brick work is so mesmerizing. I could look at it forever.

This piece makes sense in my collection because the artist who made it is from a scene of New York musicians that Louis is also from, as well as a bunch of friends of mine. It also feels very much in conversation with a lot of artists from Olana Heise’s generation. There’s a very New York and intergenerational history running through this piece, connecting different creative communities and generations that I’ve been involved with as well, which makes it feel especially meaningful in the context of my collection.
